Zambiland News
Zambiland is back. This year will mark the seventh annual Christmas concert. The reunion will be held again at the Variety Playhouse and is slated for December 20th. We will have information here, however, feel free to check out the Variety Playhouse site as well as Terminus Records. The live double CD that has been in the making is scheduled for release some time before the end of the year.
Zambiland History
All of the Colonel Bruce stories are true......if you dare to believe, then again, he is larger than the legend. The Zambiland Orchestra is an experimental unit: theory......bring as many musicians as possible together and see what happens, cause you never know what you might get. The project to many outsiders seems to have a musical premise and it does to some extent, however, the goal is to contribute something back to the community. Every year the Zambiland faithful work closely with the Foodbanks and the Children's Hospices. With that close tie, Zambiland has gained large success that it hopes to carry on for many years to come. The shows bring together a large group of staffers and volunteers (you know who you are - THANK YOU) who donate their skills to make Zambiland happen. Since the first show at Smith's Olde Bar in 1997, Zambiland has moved to the Variety Playhouse and has become more than a tribute to Colonel Bruce. It has become a reunion of friends and a cause that leaves no one unfulfilled.
Musical Masses
Because of the masses of musicians who frequent the experiments, the idea to have a conductor seemed logical. Maybe to instigate, maybe to produce or maybe to bring order to the chaos. Whatever it may be, Lincoln Metcalf's services were enlisted. He has been a valuable player in the gatherings, with plungers, giant utensils, cue cards, theremins or golf clubs, he always seems to know what the music needs. With thirty or forty musicians on stage at once, Lincoln is the glue that binds them together. You never know what you will see, you might even see the Apartment up there from time to time.

Friends and More Friends
Starting out with just a few, Zambiland has turned out to be a sort of reunion. First just friends, then friends of friends, then their friends bringing friends and so on and so on. Before it was said and done more than fifty plus musicians have turned out for these gatherings. This coming together is a welcome time for all and gives a good excuse for friends to come together and have a great time while at the same time creating new music and benefiting the community. The Zambiland spirit is alive and everyone seems to come back for more. There have even been some shows in Colorado with the help of bassist Tye North. It has been said that some of the most creative music has come from these sessions. Look for it on the CD.
This Years Zambiland
This years show is again planned for the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. We hope to see everyone out again. The Zambiland crew is working with Save the Music this year and is planning to have a great line up and a number of fabulous special guests. Keep your eyes open and your ears peeled for more information.
